Make a Pizza at Home

I always wanted to have the school kids come to the pizzeria for an afternoon of pizza making. I envisioned they would have a blast playing with the dough and making their own pizzas. And of course, getting to eat them! It’s always a mad dash in the very short summer season here in Lubec and well; I never got around to making that happen.

Fast forward to the pandemic of 2020. After being sequestered in our homes for a month I kept thinking about all the kids (and parents) at home together. How they were probably sick of cooking and running out of ideas to keep the kids entertained! I wanted to do something for the kids.

I came across a newspaper article about a pizzeria in NJ selling DIY pizza kits; complete with dougball, sauce and cheese in a pizza box. What a brilliant idea! I knew right off, we should do this.

Although the schools are closed because of COVID-19; twice a week the lunch ladies prepare meals for the kids and deliver them by school bus. So we got in touch with Lubec Elementary school and asked if it would be ok for us to supply the kids with the pizza kits and could they be added to the delivery schedule. The lunch ladies came by early one morning, loaded them on the bus and delivered them to the kids.

It was so much fun to do!
